Professor Alexander Benlian is the Director of the Endowed Chair for Information Systems & Electronic Services at Darmstadt University of Technology (TU Darmstadt) since 2012. His former academic position was University of Munich (Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität München), where he received his PhD and worked as Assistant Professor (Habilitand). In 2015, he received but turned down an appointment to an Endowed Chair in Information Systems (W3) from the University of Cologne. Between his PhD and assistant professorship, he worked two years as business consultant at McKinsey & Company for clients in the financial, telecommunications and software industry. Since 2018, Alexander is also a faculty member at Goethe Business School, Frankfurt, teaching MBA courses in the Master of Digital Transformation Management.

Captivated by the transformative power of digital innovation, he investigates algorithmic management's role in evolving business landscapes, from traditional to platform organizations. His research also encompasses the digital metamorphosis of the workplace and collaborative dynamics between humans and AI. His work transcends traditional boundaries, merging insights from information systems, entrepreneurship, service research, psychology, and ethics.

Prof. Benlian has cooperated with scholars and companies around the globe in several research and consulting projects. He is also a committed entrepreneurship trainer who regularly gives workshops in developing countries on behalf of Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) to support economic development and employment creation programs.

His research has been published in leading academic and practitioner-oriented journals like MIS Quarterly, Information Systems Research, Journal of Management Information Systems, Journal of Service Research, Entrepreneurship Theory & Practice, Journal of Business Venturing, Journal of the Association for Information Systems, MIS Quarterly Executive, Harvard Business Manager, and several others. According to national and international research rankings, he is regularly among the top 1% of Information Systems scholars worldwide (see ranking results below).
