Stig Nyman | Reimagining workplace datafication: From algorithmic management to data-driven labour organising
30.06.2026 15:00-16:00
Stig Nyman is an assistant professor in the Department of Informatics at Lund University. His research explores counter narratives to the current framings of workplace datafication as a means to create more encompassing and instantaneous forms of managerial oversight, coordination and control.
In his talk, Stig invites us to ask: What if the capacity of digital technologies and infrastructures for rendering worker activities and organizational processes visible in unprecedented ways was leveraged to mobilize workers and to advocate for their collective interests, goals, and desires. Drawing upon the Scandinavian legacy of trade union collaborations in information systems and informatics research, Stig's work recast data and algorithms at work as a political tool and means for collective action. This line of research raises fundamental questions about worker codetermination and ownership over data, including how AI reshape work and labour relations and organizing.
